Terry and I just got back from a fabulous week in Andros, Bahamas. We stayed at a place called Small Hope Bay Lodge. It has 20 cottages/rooms on the beach (at low tide). No TV, phone, etc. and no locks on the doors. There was a door for privacy, but when you left, the place is unlocked. No crime here. Life the way it should be!
I can't remember the last time I had such a relaxing, enjoyable week. Our biggest problems for the week (besides the 'no see ems' which bit mostly at night) were the following 3 very important rules we could not break:
There are also hammocks, lounges, and coconuts all over the place. When the winds came due to Mitch sweeping through Florida, we had our only slightly rainy, overcast day. Otherwise perfect weather....sunny, warm, not a care in the world, except the 3 rules previously mentioned. My typical day was:
As you can imagine, this was a pretty strenuous place to be at for a whole week. No phones, No TV, No pager, No stock market. Just dive, eat, read, socialize, sleep. I could've done this for a few weeks at least.
The divemasters were fantastic. Very knowledgable, very friendly, and lots of fun. It was really laid back but they took their jobs seriously. The dives were terrific. Lots of great coral, fish and swimthroughs. We did a blue hole, a wreck, couple night dives. 18-20 dives altogether. It was real tough leaving.
We almost got to stay when our plane had a flat tire. But, they flew in another one. (yes, they flew another plane from Fort Lauderdale with a spare part. Not much spare anything on Andros except friendly people).
I am back at work now, but my soul is still on Andros......
Here are some pictures from the 11 rolls of film that I took. I have broken them into 'sections' so you can download 4-6 shots at a time. Hope you enjoy them.
