Terry and I just got back from a week at Beaches resort in Turks & Caicos. Ok, where the heck is this? Turks & Caicos is located just southeast of the Bahamas chain. There are a number of islands making up this country. We were on Providenciales.
Beaches is part of the Sandals chain. The resort is about 10 minutes from the airport. Set on a gorgeous white sand beach that has the texture of confectioners sugar. The waters are pure turqoise. It's a lovely setting and very condusive to long walks on the beach. The place is all-inclusive, so everything is included...food, alcohol and diving, but not the SPA, bottled water or additional Scuba courses. Even tips. It's really nice not to have to carry anything but your room key with you.
Our trip to fantasy land starting out with Miami Air totally messing up the plans. They told us the flight was leaving an hour earlier than it was really scheduled. Then after flying for about 30 minutes, we had to turn back due to one of those lights that come on for no reason. Instead of heading south, using up fuel and stopping at somewhere like Washington, Balitmore, etc. the geniuses enjoyed Newark so much, they went back there. 6 hours after our original departure time, we were finally on our way in a cramped 727. Don't fly Miami Air if you can help it. (Sorry, had to get this off my chest). Finally about 9:00 PM we arrived at Beaches.
At this point, the trip started looking much better. We got checked in, found a restaurant that was open, fed our faces, then turned in for the night. The next morning was 'time to find the dive shop'. Which of course I did. All divers must start with an orientation which not only explains how they dive here, but also need to do 5 basic items in order to dive with Beaches.
The rest of the trip was basically getting up for 7:30 breakfast, getting to the dive shop by 8:00 to sign in and see where we were going, get back around 1-2:30, find Terry for lunch, beach/tan for a few hours, walk the beach with Terry and then get ready for dinner.
Dinners ranged from great to awful. Sapodillas and Le Petite Bistro were the best. Excellent service and food. Many people went back to La Petite Bistro more than once. ;-) Schooners was OK, but it was done in shifts with service being hit or miss. Guissepes, the italian place was the worst food and service we had the whole trip. Would not go there a second time. Kimono was OK, but Benihana is better and you'd be better off going to Sapodillas or Le Petite Bistro more often. We never hit Arizona for dinner, but their lunches were OK.
Here are some of the pictures. Hope you enjoy them.
