Presumably a ship of our size going through was a big deal, because we had a primary school class lined up to cheer us at one stage.

There is a road/rail link which swings open. At one lock we had a grandstand of watchers. I didn't find how to get to that front deck until late in the cruise. (Front of deck 7, go up some stairs.)
