JAPAN - DAY 3
Morning jaunt |
At first I thought I was seeing things... when we got closer... |
Public common |
In the park across from our hotel again as we walk to the… |
Science Museum |
The best-kept Japanese secret is their favorite pastime - snoozing! Any chance they get, out like a light. Before I could snap the picture, the sentry (center back) started to wake them up. In America the snoozers are the worst students and they sleep in class. In Japan they are the best students because they are studying 20 hrs. day. |
Fossils |
The big one that got away! From Boston, just it's head is over 6' long. How would you like to meet this guy at the Beach? |
My beautiful balloon. |
Fossils |
This museum blows away the Boston Museum of Science. Its Incredible. We only spent a few hours here; I would like to explore it for weeks. |
Fossils |
Huge murals on the walls are a great visual for the fossil displays. |
What are we doing here? Answer: next picture. |
Outside the theater is a hands on display of the mechanisms used in the show. The show was incredible. |
My first view of Asian plumbing! What would you do? |
Answer: Wait till I get back to the hotel! Except for Hotels, and private homes this is it! Oh yea... if you want toilet paper in Asia you have to bring it yourself. Think about that! |
There are beautiful models like this Blimp… |
and displays of the real thing like this WW II Zero. |
Linda is whale watching. The whale is a full size model. Taller than the near by trees, it's HUGE! |
Public common |
The only reason these field-tripping students aren't snoozing is they're eating lunch. Neat clean, quiet and respectful. They are very impressive. The way it should be, the way it was in the U.S. |
Shrine |
First of many shrines we visited in Asia. This one is a gateway to a shopping area. With another bigger one at the far end! |
Shopping |
AISA - SHOP TILL YOU DROP takes on new meaning. |
Girls like to shop almost as much as eat ice cream. |
I was stunned to find not only Fish Popsicle's, |
but Shrimp Popsicle's too. |
A Yukata is a kimono-like robe. Large sleeves double as pockets. I got mine! |
A Woman's paradise. |
Nancy was trying to figure out how she could get everything packed and back to the U.S. Thank God for weight limits on planes. |
Here Nancy and JA are talking about throwing my clothes away to make room for more shopping treasures. As I was taking the picture I fortunately over-heard the plan and kept my suitcase locked up for the rest of the trip. |
Jenny is the ultimate shopper; you have to see her in operation to understand. It was scary. She would get up early and shop until we started touring. After everyone was dead at the end of the day, you guessed it, out shopping again all night. |
Linda does pretty well too. |
JA's not far behind either. (Wife school.) |
Tortoise shell necklaces, top left, sell for over 1,000,000 yen (U.S.$7,463) |
At the far end of this shopper's paradise is the large shrine. |
With a Shinto shrine beside it. |
The kids like the pigeons better. One flew onto JA's hand. |
To the left of the big shrine is (ask Linda, I forgot) |
Kimono - front view. Made of silk and very beautiful. |
Kimono - rear view. Note wood shoes and large bow. |
Back to shopping, every item must be careful examined and discussed in detail of course. |
'T' station |
Mural. Their 'T' stations are very aesthetically pleasing. Probably because the Japanese spend so much time there. |
