The opening picture symbolizes my recollection of our Asia trip. A montage of images to represent the blend of new sights, sounds, tastes and feelings that flood my thoughts when I think of Asia. Certainly not the time ordered images you will see on the following pages.
Yes, I can order the memories by concentrating on a timeline, to an extent. But mostly, I get a montage of little pieces, like a hand holding chopsticks, or a smile that brings warmth to my soul, the way the sun feels on my face. I like it that way best, I think. Like the wind in my face as I stand on a high overlook surveying Hong Kong or the pungent taste of the Japanese equivalent of horseradish. Asia calls me and I want to go back.
Yet, occasionally, something triggers a distinct clear sharply defined memory. It might be a taste, a spoken word, or a place. Always unexpected, it's like a special gift, greatly appreciated. These and a million other images I cannot convey on these web pages.
I make no representation that the following pages accurately portray the Orient. They can't, any more than one molecule of water can portray the oceans. Bearing this in mind, the purpose of these web pages is NOT to show you the Orient, but to entice you to explore it for yourself. You will be glad you did.
If you have already experienced the Orient, I hope they will trigger your own recollections, a special gift from me to you. Enjoy!
