Porto Santo We shouldn't have been on Porto Santo at all but the plane couldn't land on Madeira due to bad weather. So we stayed the night in Vila Baleira, got a wake up call at 6.45 am, had breakfast and got to see the sun rise. Then it was just a short hop over to Madeira during which the plane barely got off the ground. Of course while we had stayed overnight on Porto Santo, the passengers who should have returned on our plane had been stuck on Madeira and were a day late getting home. Vila Baleira has a beach, a Christopher Columbus Museum and one horse! An ideal destination for the 'get away from it all' holiday. Just hope that no Madeira-bound holiday makers get stranded to ruin your peace and quiet. Apparently it happened to Lord Carrington, whose comment on getting off the plane was 'This can't be Madeira it's too sandy'.
