The Seaport of Sidon

Sidon is a port town and the third largest city in Lebanon, after Beirut and Tripoli. Another Phoenician city, Sidon [or Saida] is a microcosm of life in Southern Lebanon: an old fishing port, a commercial port, an old city beside its newer additions, replete with souks, mosques, and the artifacts left by the Europeans on the Crusades.

We are trying a new mode of presentation on this page For a tour of the highlights of the Sidon, simply use the panorama below, which allows you to click on highlights. The sites will pop up in a new window. If you like this panorama approach, e-mail us on the main page.

WELCOME TO VIRTUAL SIDON

Java support is required for panoramic images.

To operate this Panorama: once loaded, the picture will slowly rotate 360 degrees. By clicking on the text ONCE ONLY, a pop-up window with an enlargeable picture and a brief description will appear. You must close the last window before opening another window. Clicking in the smaller window produces a larger version of the picture--to see the whole picture resize the window by holding down the mouse and pulling on the lower left corner

NAVIGATION AIDS:

Macintosh Users: Unfortunately the slider bar and the zoom function does not work for you, and those of you using a Mac with Internet Explorer cannot access the embedded pictures. Don't despair! To see images of Saida, click on the thumbnails below! Sorry about the mess--I am looking into a remedy for this! WE LOVE MACS!
