INTRODUCTION: It is believed that Michael Manning along with wife Mary Cleary (Leary?), and their children John, Bridgette, Michael, Martin & Mary immigrated to Canada about 1845 eventually settling in Johnson, Lamoille County, VT about 1849/50. Some believe that Michael immigrated by himself eventually sending for his family to join him in Hyde Park, VT. This might explain why his wife Mary had no children between 1845 and 1855, then started having children regularly. We will probably never know the exact circumstance surrounding their migration.
The following information was extracted from the booklet "Shire Town of Lamoille County" - A Historical Story of Hyde Park, VT
....."After 1830 many families, single men and single women too, came into Canada, especially Montreal, and some found their way into Hyde Park. Rev. Vincent Maloney of St. Michael's College has long been interested in this phase of history and feels that the ships carrying lumber and other goods from this country to England mostly were glad to accomodate paying passengers for a small fare, on their return voyage. Many were leaving Ireland due to economic conditions, and brought not only baggage but possessions. The names on the old maps and records show many Irish names such as Roddy, Finnegan, Maloney, McGinnis, Stewart, McGookin, Lucas, Manning, and Rooney."
St. Teresa's Roman Catholic Church. ....."Some of the early Catholic families came here from Ste.Hyacinthe, Province of Quebec, Canada. Joseph Lepage in 1858, and Joseph Gauthier, Terrance Finnigan, Michael Manning, James Roddy, Patrick Kelly and John Stewart were among the first families coming here, as early as 1855."
Are you a Manning descendant that might be connected to this family line? If so, we need your help in building your side of this family tree. The relationship between the first two generations is unclear at best. Whenever possible we tried to cite our source of information for these two
generations. Census data was our main source and as most of you already know, while very helpful, this data is not always completely accurate. Sometimes the informant was not the most knowledgable household member and erroneous data was furnished. Property instruments, wills, and probate are the best source
documents. The legality of these documents made accuracy important. Obituaries are another source of information that are usually accurate and can provide insight into the structure of that particular family. Hopefully some of you have access to this type information and will provide us with a copy as a
source document for this site. E-mail us at kickhome@aol.com.

Then share the Knowledge. As our elders grow older, we must encourage them to again tell the old old stories that make us laugh until tears run, or cry sweet tears of remembrance. The voices that tell stories today are echoes of our loved ones who have come and gone before us.
Priceless. We must strive to document and tell the life-stories that will mean so much to our descendants. Write your history, including life events that may seem trivial to you now, but will be a priceless treasure to your loved ones. Save, protect and share these stories with your family.
Interested in finding more about your ancestry? I understand that a book titled "Jones Genealogy" authored by Myrtle Clark has a tremendous amount of our Manning Genealogy in it. Bradley Allen and Gail Budick each have a copy and they both seem to enjoy it. If you're interested in obtaining a copy you can order it from "Tuttle Books." It cost approximately $45.00 plus shipping charges.
For those of you who are interested in this Genealogy web site please "down load" all this information and photos on to you own diskettes, or at least the photos and specific family history that interests you.
This is very important because it has taken a considerable amount of time to collect all this information, and sometimes information and/or web sites are lost by the host server.
In addition, once the webmaster dies, the content of this web site eventualy dies with him -- by this I mean it is eventually deleted from the WWW if not updated within a specific period of time.
If there are any Manning kin related to individuals on this site who are HTML coding knowledgeable; and also interested in keeping the family history (genealogy) up to date, please contact me. Also, I would prefer someone with a real interest in Family Genealogy who is much younger than me. I am placing this notice on our Family Web Site because my health has been giving problems the last couple of years and I would hate to see this web site disappear should something happen to me.
