Manning, Ashton W. ALBANY -- Ashton W. Manning, 84, died Thursday, October 10, 2002 at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Albany. Born August 13, 1918 in Middletown, R.I., he was the son of the late George and Rena Hale Manning.

Mr. Manning was an Army veteran, serving in World War II in the Pacific Theater, 305th Infantry, 77th Division. He then worked as a bus driver and custodian for Greenville Central Schools for over 13 years until his retirement in 1980. Mr. Manning was a member of the VFW-Sullivan Teator #770 in Catskill, the Military Order of Cooties, Pup Tent 28 in Windham and a 45 year member of A.A.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Savage Manning of Watervliet; a sister, Lucille Money of R.I.; daughters, Joyce Marchessault of R.I., Kathleen Tirpak of Guilderland and Shirley Worthington and her husband Charles of R.I.; a stepdaughter, Robin Collins and her husband Brad of R.I.; a stepson, Richard Labonte and his wife Diane of R.I.; six grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his five brothers, a sister, and by his stepdaughter, Cheryl Riely.

Services will be Friday, October 25, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at Tebbutt Funeral Home, 633 Central Avenue, Albany. Friends and relatives are invited to call Friday, October 25, from 10-11 a.m. Interment will be in Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his name to the Veterans Administration Medical Center, 113 Holland Avenue, Albany, NY, 12208 or to the American Cancer Society, 260 Osborne Road, Loudonville, NY 12211.
