  • Airplane Rental (Private) -   A group of local pilots offer their services for siteseeing, gliding and aerobatics. Call Mr. Edward at 022-200-6343, Mr. Kuntho at 022-601-5732 or Mr. Ganjar at 022-679-698. Cost may be around $20 - $50 per flight.

  • Bogor - is a smaller town located between Bandung & Jakarta. It is near the Safari park listed below and has a large Botanical garden in it called Taman Raya which also houses the Presidential Palace.To find out more about Bogor take a look at the BogorFreeGuide.(there is a great map of the town at this site too)
  • Bowling - (Jl. Ir.H. Juanda 3) Bandung's first Bowling Alley has been open since 4/2000 and is on the top floor of the new Planet Dago Mall (on Jl. Juanda #3).  Also in the Mall is a Timezone arcade, a couple of good restaurants and a few shops. The Cafe dante (426-1160) makes some good & simple sandwiches and coffee/Espreso. There is also the Universal Bowling Alley on the top floor of the Super Mall (Telp:910-1818)

  • French Cultural Center -  There are usually a number of good performances or recitals here each year. (Jl. Purnawarman no. 32 Bandung, Telp ?)
  • Flowers - Taman Bungga - A garden park in Cipanas on the road between Bogor & Bandung

  • Geologocal Museum - a good Museum which was recently renovation and has three sections; Fossils, Minerals, and natural Gas/Oil Exploration.   • Golf: Arcamanik Raya Golf and Country Club offers an 18 hole championship golf course opened in 1970. the public golf course is equipped with a pro shop and a Club House. Jl. Raya Timur Km.7 Sukamiskin, Bandung Jawa Barat Phone: (022) 772891)

  • Hiking:  Puppy Hash is one group in Bandung which sponsors day hikes around Bandung. At this time I don't have any information about this but have seen it advertised at BAIS.

  • Ice Skating - a new ice skating has opened in the Istana Plaza Mall on Jl. Pajajaran and they are building another one in the Dago Plaza above the Lotus Department store.
  • IMAX Theater - see entry under theaters below.

  • Jalan-jalan - just take a walk around town. If anyone asks you where are you going just tell them "Jalan-jalan" or walking-walking. This response usually satisfies most people.

  • Kites - Indonesians really know how to fly kites. You can buy simple kites all over the place really cheaply and have a go at it.

  • Lembang - Lembang is about 15 minutes north of Bandung and is a bit cooler.  Popular places to go around Lembang are the hot springs or the volcano (see entries below). There are also a number of nice hotels in this area like the Panorama Lembang (Telp. 022 278-6030).

  • Mess Malabar - This is a guest house located right in the middle of a large tea Plantation to the south of Bandung. For reservations or information visit the office in Bandung on Jl. Sindangsirna No 4 or call them (62-22) 203-8966.

  • Ocean:  There are two Beach spots near (within 6 hours) from Bandung: Pangandaran & Pelabuhan Ratu. See the information on them listed directly below under "P".

  • Pangandaran -  this is one of the best beaches in West Java, about a 4 hour drive from Bandung. Ask around, but there are two nice hotels there, "The Sunrise Hotel" Telp: (0265) 639-220 and Hotel Surya (0265) 379-220. For a smaller bed and breakfast feel try the Adam's Home Stay on Jl. Pamugaran Bulak Laut a few doors down from the Surya.  Telp. (0265) 639-164
  • Pelabuhan Ratu - a beach town located about 3-4 hours south of Jakarata and about 4-5 hours from Bandung. There  are a number of recently developed resorts here and there is a place near by to go white water rafting or play paint ball.

  • Rides: On the top floor of the Bandung Supermall is a small indoor amusement part with a 3 story feris wheel, roller coaster, merry-go-round, bumper cars, and a number of other rides.

  • Shopping - see the Shopping Links Page for a listing of some of the export stores and Malls in town.
  • Swimming - There are a number of good swimming clubs but here are the places I have information about:
    •  Bumi Sankuriang - an inexpensive swim club with a heated pool, nice grounds and a restuarant located across from BAIS . (Jl. Kuputih 12 - Ciumbuleuit Area Telp. 232-2661).
    • Sheraton Hotel Bandung - this is a bit more expensive and the water is cold but its a nice place to get away for a swim with the kids.

  • Theaters - There are a number of good movie theaters in town. Below is a list of several:
    • Cineplex Empire 21 (BIP):  7 theaters located on the top floor of the Bandung Indah Plaza Mall (Jl. Merdeka 56 Telp. 424-0719)
    • Cineplex Regent  4 theaters connected to Pizza Hut & Dairy Queen (Jl Sumatra 2 Telp. 436-370)
    • IMAX Theater & Science Exhibit - Only open on Sundays on 4th floor of ITB's Convention Center. They are showing the following 3D films - Seasons, Sharks & Ring of Fire. For schedules and details call them at (022) 251-1561 or 251-1563
    • Cineplex Empire 21 (SuperMall):  here are a number of new theaters on the top floor of the SuperMall.
  • Taman Hutan Raya (The Great Forest Park) - A nice park to take a walk in. It is located north of the Dago bus terminal. There are some old caves to explore here which were built by the Dutch and the Japanese when they occupied Indonesia.
  • Taman Safari - A drive-through safari park located in Bogor, which is about 2.5 hours out of Bandung on your way to Jakarta. Tel. (0251) 253-222

  • Volcano: Tanguban Perahu - A volcano to the north of Bandung past Lembang. You can drive to the top and look down into the crater. Get there early before the fog moves in...too late in the day, and you won't be able to see the Bandung valley from up top. There is also a nice hiking trail that starts half way up the mountain through the forest to a smaller crater.
  • Volley Ball - many Indonesians love to play Volleyball and they have built courts all over town.

  • Water Park, Bandung -  A water slide park in the south part of Bandung somewhere.

  • X-Cultural Experience - try to walk around and experience the Sundanese Culture first hand.

  • Yard Party - have a cook out and invite us.
  • Z

  • Zoo - The Bandung Zoo is located right next the ITB campus. Tree-lined walkways make this a very pleasant spot, although very crowded on Sundays.  At the back is a large playground.
