Beijing the Capital

Beijing is the second largest city in China with a population of over 9 million.  The cityscape of this Chinese capital is unique due to the mixture of ancient Chinese buildings and the newly-built modern western-style high-rises.

Forbidden City    This is one of the main structures inside the Forbidden City.  Forbidden City was the home to the emperors for hundreds of years.  This major tourist attraction site is clean and well-maintained.

Cultural Museum at Tienanmen Square    This museum was built to educate the Chinese people and foreigners about the modern history of China (starting from the late Qing dynasty to present).  It features pictorial galleries and old documents.  Outside the museum displays a clock counting down in days and seconds before Macao officially becomes Chinese territory again.

People's Hero Memorial at Tienanmen Square    This was built to honor and commemorate those who suffered or died during the revolution.

Great Wall   The great wall of China, one of the only two man-made objects viewable from outer space.  It is 'great' all right.  This section of the wall shown in the picture is only a tiny segment of the entire length.
