Guilin in GuangXi Province

The above line in Chinese characters literally reads "Guilin's mountains and waters are the best under the sky".

Li River Boat Tour.   This river is considered the main attraction of Guilin.  Every morning, there are at least 15 ferry boats taking hundreds of tourist down a section of the Li-River from Guilin to YangShuo.  The ride is 83km (51mi) long and takes about 3 hours.  The scenery along the way is breathtaking.  Standing on the opened upper deck of the boat, one can enjoy the refreshing breeze while observing magnificent visual beauty.  Mountains after mountains seemed to be growing alongside the turquoise water of the Li River.  Click on map to enlarge it.

The following pictures were taken during my boat ride down the Li River.

Caves    Guilin is also famous for its caves.  Here are three pictures I took inside the cave; two of them are probably too dark to see.  One of these two are taken on board a boat inside the cave (think of it as 'Pirates of the Caribbean' without robots and hidden machinery).  Color lighting is put into the cave for special effects.

Seven Star Cave 1 (too dark to see)

Seven Star Cave 2 (boat)

Seven Star Cave 3 (Good lighting)

Camel Mountain    I saw about 30 grade school kids painting with the Camel Mountain as their subject.  Also, president Clinton spoke here (at where I took this picture, not on one of the camel humps) about environmental issues a few years ago.

Moon Mountain    The moon shaped hole in the middle of the mountain changes shape as you move your viewing location from one spot to another.  While I walked a short distance of roughly 100yards, I saw the moon changed from full to half and back to full again.
