The Castle of Good Hope - 31 January 2000 -

foeanddocatcastle.jpg (39026 bytes)Photographer: Ried

Unfortunately we don't have any pictures scanned that give you a better idea of how the Castle of Good Hope looks. The wall behind Sier gives you an idea of how the entire wall surrounding the castle looks. While building it, rocks were removed from a nearby hill and transported to the site. The doors to the left lead to a museum, which houses artefacts that were found during restoration work in the 1980s. Interesting things like China dating back to the 17th century, when the Dutch first arrived, as well as Bushmen artefacts that were around long before then :). To the right of this picture is the dungeons and torture chamber. Foe and Sier (and the other tourists) are watching the changing of the Guards.
