Well, it's high time you folks had a chance to see where I live. I'll add to this later, but for now, here's a bit of Giessen for you, along with highlights from a brief trip to Heidelberg.

Here I am in our cozy kitchen. We've got enough cabinet and fridge space to go around, and my floormates and I often chat in here or watch TV.

This is my Pakistani friend Bilal sitting in a chair on the other side of the kitchen. He's a really fun guy, but he has his serious side as well.

This is a view from our kitchen balcony. Not too bad, eh?

This is my dorm, Eichendorffring Haus Y. I was lucky to get this shot in some nice October sunshine. October was a good month for weather, although they tell me that's not always the case.

This is my bed. How do you like the color scheme? I was fortunate in getting second hand sheets from another American in this dorm, Missy. She inherited some things of this nature from yet other Americans who were going back home.

This is a path that goes along one of the complexes of the Justus Liebig Universität Giessen, where I study. In the background you can see a bit of the library building.

There's this really odd statue of a boy you pass by on the way to the cafeteria. I think he's supposed to be a student, but I've never figured out exactly what purpose he serves. It was kind of funny when somebody dressed him up for halloween, though. :)

Just a shot of Giessen, a nice little college community of roughly 72,000 people. I intend to get some shots of the city center and some more noteworthy places on here later.

And now for something completely different!

Hey kids, it's time for highlights from Heidelberg! Isaac, Katja, Olesja and I took a day trip there on the schönes Wochenende (lovely weekend) ticket offered by the deutsche Bahn (German Railways).

So, here we are in beautiful Heidelberg. A cliche to put it that way, but it certainly is true. Located on the Neckar River, the city houses a beautiful castle (partially shown at the top of this picture), Germany's oldest university, and many lovely buildings. By the way, standing in this picture from left to right are Isaac, Katja, Olesja, and me.

This is a view of Heidelberg from its famous castle. Up at the castle, by the way, there's more to find than good lookout points. There's a winery and also a museum of German pharmacy, both of which we visited. We brought a bottle of champagne back from the former.

Here I am on the way up to the castle. Katja, who is interested in photography, took the picture, and tried me in several other poses with her camera as well. I got kind of used to it. Anybody out there looking to hire a male model?

A shot of the boys with Olesja.

My travel companions in the city.

Here I am inside a lovely church, the name of which I should know but have forgotten.

A little bonus candid shot of Olesja tying her shoe!

Well, those are my highlights from Heidelberg!
