Dear Debbie and Alby, We have just read your travelogue on Ecuador. Sounds great and somewhat frightening while all the problems were happening in Quito. Everything was very peaceful here in Vilcabamba, as far as politics go. We were buying bread at the store while the T was on, and the lady casually mentioned that what we are watching is the military and indigenous people who have just occupied the congress - live. Otherwise we would have never known... On the other hand, the rain just poured and poured. The roads we e washed out on a daily basis that connect the village to Loja, which made it hard to get certain things. There were a lot of water shortages also... We noticed we were mentioned in your Vilcabamba section. How sweet!!! We have come to realize that this is not a paradise here and that we could not live here for the rest of our lives. Not to mention(as I am just actually doing :-) ), that we could not make a living here. People earn 2 DOLLARS A DAY here!!! Not muc money to fly home on! Wow! You two are certainly taking your time! THis is actually the only sensible way to go on such a long, rather: HUGE trip. (We were so burned out by bus rides in Mexico!) One question: Could you recommend a place to stay in Cuzco? We will leave Vilcabamba in October and figured that we want to see Machu Picchu before we go back to the US, since we are already so close. Also a traveller heard that the Peruvian Gov't ha raised the Machu Picchu entry fee to FIFTY dollars! If that ain't outta line, what is? I hope that isn't true. Love, Szilard and Carrie

Thank you for a postcard from ECUADOR. I saw these pages. I want to come again and enjoy these pages. My English is not so good, so it takes much time to read. Today, I only enjoy seeing the beautiful pictures. I've never been there, so they interest me much. Thank you!
