Cape Neddick
York, Maine

Also known as "Nubble Light", it was built in 1879, at a cost of about $15,000.

This cast-iron tower is only 41 feet tall and the light flashes red every 6 seconds, with a range of 13 miles.

Cape Neddick was automated in 1987 and is care for by the town of York.

Every year, on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, the town has a outdoor festival at a park across from the lighthouse.  At dusk, the Christmas lights that are strung up on the lighthouse and the keeper's quarters, are lit.  In July, they do it all over again with Christmas in July.

If you ever get to Maine, this is a must see.  If you can't get there anytime soon, you can see what it looks like in the picture below.
