In 1995, I moved to Manchester NH. A couple of days later I met my new neighbors, Kris, 35, her husband Mike, 48, A Vietnam vet, and their 4 children, Brian, 14, Kristie, 10, Martina, 8 and Jimmy, 6. They were great neighbors and I was always visiting nightly. Mike was not able to work due to his health. At that time, he had already had 3 heart attacks. His only income was Social Security, but that was not enough to get by. So, Kris worked to make up the difference. On June 25, 1997, Kris found out she was 6 months pregnant. On July 31, 1997, the doctor told her that she had to stop working because of some problems that developed in her arms. That news left them with just Mike's income. Kris delivered a healthy baby boy on October 1, 1997. They named him Paul. Everything seemed ok until November 4, 1997. On that day, Kris found out she had cancer, lung cancer. She was given a year to live, but no more. Trying to extend her life for her children, she started treatments immediately. After 2 treatments, the doctors stopped all treatments. Unfortunately for Kris, it was too late. On February 9, 1998, Kris passed away, leaving Mike to support their 5 children. As a close family friend, I try to help as much as possible, buying food, Christmas gifts, car repairs and other things that come up that they need. But it is not always easy. So I had a thought. I need to come up with ways to raise money to help them. This is only ONE of my ideas. We are blessed to be able to collect lighthouse stuff for ourselves. Others are not as lucky. I was always thinking that I wanted to do charity work at a local help center, but someone up above had something a little different in mind. If you collect Spoontiques Lighthouse Replicas, or you know people who do, why not fulfill a need of someone else while your doing it. Please, help me help them, by purchasing Spoontiques and other collectibles that we sell.. Thank You, Bill |
