Songpan

This is my Shifu and he's the best!

Day 6:We hopped onto a minibus at the little town just outside Jiuzhaigou to Songpan. The journey was about 3-4 hours. But little did we expect that something would happen to our bus--the windscreen was shattered suddenly when we passed a vehicle. It all happened so fast that we didn't know what had happened for a second. The driver had to clear all the little pieces of glass before we could hit the road again. We put on more clothes cos the wind that blew through the windsreen-less vehicle was too chilly and unbearable for us.

Day 7: This is the start of the 3 days horse-back riding trip to the mountains of Songpan. We had a hard time choosing the horse riding company, cos there's quite a stiff competition between the 2 of them. Of course, we left the important task to Binni (negotiate with the representative for a good deal), while we started to wash our clothes and explore our new rooms (Binni, we knew you could do it, and we don't need so many people to settle it, right???)

My tent mates on our comfortable bed of twigs and leaves.

The horses were very tame at the beginning, with one following another up the mountains. But there's something to mention: most of us were scared stiff when we got up our horses the first time. *We must be quite a scene on the street, cos some of us just kept screaming* My horse is alright and listens to it's owner (my shifu), but not Huiluan's, cos her horse keep on disturbing the others (like pushing another horse) and we all agreed not to come close to her and her horse!!!
And Huiluan's horse kept nibbling the spring onions on Yanling's horse--and it smelt of spring onions at the end of the trip!!songpanlunch.jpg (63131 bytes) *Yucks!* And we were left of only a few stalks of spring onions (our only source of green vegetable) to survive the next 2 days!
Poor Huiluan! She was 'blacklisted' together with her horse!!

Our first destination was Erdaohai, which is a 'hot spring'.  Here's a warning to other travellers: unless u come from a place that doesn't have a hot spring, or if you've not seen and felt one, by all means jump into the water! The water isn't warm at all!! And gals, remember who's the brave one to test water for us?? Let's give her a big clap!!

Day 8: Two accidents happened. Lijuan's horse galloped into a hole in a wooden bridge, one of its leg was stuck into the hole, and seemed to have sprained it. Therefore it couldn't take any passengers for the rest of our trip.  There second accident happened to Huiluan.  Her horse walked into a pool of mud, lost it's balance (maybe it's high on onions??) and Huiluan was thrown onto the ground. Quite an adventure so far!!
And I've noticed 2 charactors in my horse-- 1. it likes to go so near to the edge that one more centimetre, both of us will be on the shortcut way to the foot of the valley! 2. It's afraid of cars. It started to loose it's 'cool' whenever a car goes past it, and my shifu had to hold it away from the vehicle. Later that I knew that it had an accident with a vehicle before.

Zhaga waterfall was almost more than 1/2 hour hike up (walking time, not on horse) the mountain. Scenery along the trek was similar to those in Jiuzhaigou, but in a much smaller scale. Water in the little 'ponds' are greenish too. Everything is the untouched and calm. But we had to be very careful with our steps cos the trek was very muddy and slippery, while our guide (my shifu) took us to side of Zhaga waterfall (if not for his encouragements, we would have given up halfway!), and admired this magnificent waterfall.

Day 9: Stunning views greeted us on the last day of our trekking.

....I'm on the, top of the world....

You have to be there to see all the snow capped mountains, where you feel that everything is so small and insignificant, but yet the scenery before us is so magnificant and splendour. This is one of the places that I will not forget.

We were very glad that we've finally reached civilization. After being a vegetarian for 3 days, we were craving for some meat, and happily ordered 10 yak meat dumplings for each of us once we hit back to the Songpan town.

And want to know the effect of yak meat on me??
