Days 1-3
Walking
Day
4...Palma
We took the public bus to Palma early in the morning (again),
and had a little walk around the city before hitting the cathedral. As usual, we had to examine the place in relation to our course and at
the same time, doing what tourists are supposed to do: take photos!!
Palma is a typical Spanish city, with lots of narrow lanes,
where the cars come speeding at your direction, and everyone will have
to literally paste themselves against the wall to make way for the vehicles.
At the end of the day, with the sound of screeching tyres, everyone would
automatically look for the walls!
Finally, after the maze-like lanes, we reached the cathedral!
It is shaped like a ship and is indeed appropriate for it's location. It's
a massive building and houses several Gaudi's creations. After lunch, Erica, Junko and I went 'window shopping'
around Palma, but we were 'good' because we did not buy anything! We've
then wanted to walk to this huge shopping complex, but our legs didn't
want to take us there and so we decided that it's too far away. I'm glad
that we didn't go because on the way back, it took the bus about 10 minutes
to reach the complex! (I had to save some energy to cook dinner)....
Finally, dinner (without bread, due to strong
protests from the girls).
Day
5....Rural Tourism
The day started bright and sunny, and I was really glad
that the coach was not as terrible as the one on Sunday, as I could only
feel the motion sickness in the afternoon! Today's theme is 'rural tourism',
and so we have to visit some countryside.
Port De Soller, a quiet little town and harbour.
To get to the port of Soller, we had to take a tram
from
the Soller village. The tram used to transport produce from the village
to the port.
Other places that we visited today include a viewpoint
near Valldemossa and the town, as well as a stately house La
Granja.
And it is Erica's time to cook dinner today!
Towards the end of the day, almost the entire class came to our
flat to play the card game 'Malakas' (a Greek game, of course).
Ann was
the first 'Malakas' of the night, but she had to give up the 'prestigious'
position less than 2 minutes into the game!
