Reverse Racism
I would like to comment on the mentality of "SOME" Turks Islanders. I work and reside in the Turks & Caicos and have had my life threated twice (without merit). I am female whom is the manager of a large business. On both occassions I have had Turks Island men threaten to beat me because I was a "white bitch". The real issue in question was unpaid debts owed to the company. I ignored their threats (fortunately they did not carry out the obscenities and threats which they were yelling in my face). To have to call the police to have them removed from the office. My staff was no where to be found when the commotion started (not very supportive - extremely disappointed with those who proclaim to be friends). The police took over 20 minutes to respond to my 911 call wherein I stated I was being threatened by a male (whom they heard screaming in the background over my frantic telephone calls). I do not understand why in this day and age when things do not go the direction these men wanted (them not having to pay a bill and receiving a service for FREE!!) that they must find it necessary to not only become VIOLENT but make this a racial issue.... Though I choose not to mention my name (for fear and knowledge that there will be reprocusions) I find this web page helpful in venting this issue which seems to be justified by the local people. It is hard to blow off such an insult and threat. I am re-thinking my stay in these islands. I know that not ALL Islanders are bad people - I have many friends whom are wonderful human beings but... am finding it very difficult to see the positive when such ignorant behavior is allowed. This type of behavior should not be taken lightly - it is a criminal offence to threaten the well being of another human being and this behavious should be treated as such. I have been told that this offensive male was "just blowing off steam". That is the most ridiculous response I have ever heard. What type of society would condone the beating of a female for simply trying to do her job..... Sad situation.
