Quechee Gorge Quechee Gorge, VT
The "Should I Bookmark this Site" self-test.
Score points if you agree that:
  • I know where this picture was taken -- or want to know.
  • standing in line for a lobster roll at Red's Eats in Maine is cool; standing in line at a theme park gives me a rash.
  • part of the uniqueness of Legs Inn (Cross Village, Michigan) is that they don't sell cute "I got great legs at..." tee shirts.
  • whether called Palm Island, Don Pedro, or Little Gasparillo, it's a great place to spend time on the Gulf of Mexico.
  • there's a great po' boy sandwich waiting near the end of the line on the St. Charles trolley (and you have to work hard in New Orleans to get a bad food anywhere.)

Start at Shelburne Farms for "Vermont to Ontario -- After Labor Day and before the Fall Color Tours."

Minor thoughts while touring --
Just west of Buffalo, in search of a quiet room near the highway, we stopped at a Red Roof Inn. They'd left the light on for us.

We were thinking $29.95, and there was a Bob Evan’s next door that would do for both dinner and breakfast. Well, it had been a while since we’d stayed at a Red Roof. They hadn’t been thinking $29.95 for a long time. Besides, we hit the Saturday night of the big Hamburg (?) Dog Show, so we were facing peak rates. The Red Roof allows pets, but at a price. We chatted for a while with the night managers, the price went down a little, so we settled in.

As it turned out, we didn’t see many dogs, except a whole Volvo wagonload of German Shepherds. We concluded that the smaller, fancier breeds were probably staying up the road at the Holiday Inn. We suspected that Bichons and other lap dogs were spending the night in their masters' beds after being smuggled into the downtown Hyatt in soft-sided doggie-luggage-carriers.
