The next day we hiked 5-6 kms from
Oberon Bay to Waterloo Bay, where we stopped for lunch. This
saltwater lake, just inside the coastline, looks a bit like a
Dali painting...

After lunch, we hiked to Refuge Cove, where we stayed for the night. Along the way, we ran into this echidna... |

There were an impressive number of backpackers--families, friends, as young as 16 and as old as >50--at Refuge Cove, but we were still able to find a relatively private campsite near an inlet, where a blue-grey egret continuously fished around us. Refuge Cove was our favorite campsite. It is located at a small, crescent shaped beach with strikingly white sand and gentle waves of varying degrees of blue. Sailboats were anchored in the cove for the night and there were campsites for both boaters and hikers. Unfortunately we didn't get many good photos at Refuge Cove, but below is our egret friend... |
