On New Year's Eve, we hiked up a mountain called The Pinnacle. Pictured at left is Victoria's version of the Grand Canyon. On the right, Mike hides his naked body behind a rock (just kidding--he's not naked, I just thought I'd keep things interesting!) |
We enjoyed a picnic dinner and a bottle of wine from a local vineyard called The Gap while awaiting the last sunset of 1998. Meanwhile, we read Mom B.'s Christmas book to each other as the night drew near (left). The sunset over The Pinnacle was gorgeous, far better than pictured here (right). |
Our last night in the Grampians, we cooked dinner on the public gas barbeques at Zumstein picnic grounds. In early morning and at dusk, the area is a favorite with local kangaroos. Although they are wild and don't take too kindly to being grabbed by ignorant tourists, we were able to relax with them for an hour or so. |
On January 5th, Mike returned to work, and on January 11th, Melissa started her new post-doctoral position at Monash University. It was sad for both of us to return to work...But it was only five weeks before our moods were uplifted by a visit from Mom B.!!
