In September, 1999 we returned to the states for Sean (Mike's brother) and Shannon's wedding (see a photo of the lovely couple). It was by far the best wedding we've ever been to, and was well worth the financial and emotional stress that we put ourselves through. In addition, it actually cost less to fly around the world than to fly directly to Rhode Island and Back to Melbourne, so we made the trip well worth our effort and stopped in England and Holland on our return to Australia. If only we'd had more than two weeks off work. Below are photos from our 3-4 day stay in London, where we visited our good friend David (Slick) Bradley, who was there conducting research for his Ph.D in political science

.

As expected, we became quite familiar with the Underground. Slick lived in Balham (near Clapham Common), which is about 20 kilomenters outside of London, and of course, we used the Underground to get around London as well. At right is pictured a typical ride on the Underground--you're not missing much!
Slick and Mike at Punch&Judy After breakfast the first day, we went with Slick for a drink at a cool bar called Punch and Judy's in the city centre...then he had to leave us for a couple of hours to conduct an interview for his thesis research. So we walked around the city aimlessly and loved it (especially since it was FREE!).
One of the first things we saw upon arriving in London was a gorgeous view of White Hall (at right) across the Thames. I can now say that this was my favorite part of London. White Hall
Fountain at Trafalgar Square In addition to the buildings with signs dating them to the 2nd century, we particularly enjoyed Trafalgar square...
Photo opportunities abounded! Above is a photo of the gorgeous statues which decorate the fountain in the middle of the square. And at right is a photo of the Lion statues which gazed out from every corner of the square. It was difficult to get a photo of a statue without tourists climbing all over them!
