I joined a group arranged by the company Explore in La Paz, Bolivia

[Image] We crossed the altiplano (high plain at 10,000 feet) by bus.
[Image] Mount Illimani, the 2nd highest peak in Bolivia.
[Image] The weekly animal market in a small town on the altiplano.
[Image] How many locals will fit in a pickup truck?
[Image] Another view of Mt Illimani.
[Image] The town of Sorata is the gateway between the jungle and the altiplano. We went hiking in the mountains above town.
[Image] Here we see a farm just above Sorata.
[Image] Herding sheep.

[Image] View from the Chacaltaya ski resort, I'm in the foreground.
[Image] Chacaltaya, near La Paz, is at 13,000 feet so hiking up this slope was breathtaking in more ways than one.
[Image] The building at the edge of the cliff houses an old truck engine used to power the ski lift.
[Image] We spent two days on the very dry island of the Sun in lake Titicaca
[Image] and we hiked across the island.
[Image] A cathedral in the town of Copacabana on the shore of lake Titicaca.

[Image] We crossed the lake in a small boat while our bus crossed on a barge.
[Image] The locals still use reed boats.

[Image] A narrow road in the old part of Cusco called San Blas.
[Image] The ruins at Machu Pichu.
[Image] The 'industrial' section of Machu Pichu where the artisans had their workshops.
[Image] The walls were built without mortar and still stand nowadays.
[Image] View down to the Urubamba river and valley.
[Image] The train is pulling in to the station at Aguas Calientes to take us back to Cusco.
