Club Tryp Cayo Coco
You will get used to seeing this logo everywhere! It's on shirts, towels, glasses, even the shower curtains in the rooms. I can tell you, you will want to buy lots of things so bring cash and make sure they are US dollars. We bought rum, cigars, shirts and gifts for friends. And you will want to bring lots of singles for tipping the great staff. You will definitely need to make sure you keep enough cash on you so you can pay the departure tax at the airport when you leave. The tax runs from $15-$25 (your travel agent will let you know how much it will be when you book your trip) and you must have it...in cash. Make sure you set it aside at the beginning of your trip and DON'T SPEND IT! You will also want to have cash on you for the duty free shop at the airport. Of course you could always buy your rum and cigars at the resort for the same reasonable prices. You can pick up top-quality cigars that sell for $50 each here for less than $10 each almost anywhere in Cuba. You are allowed to bring 50 cigars into Canada with you. Some top of the line brands are Cohiba, Monte Cristo, Romeo and Julieta. Any staff in one of the cigar shops will have a wealth of knowledge. We got lots of assistance picking out some nice mild ones.

enjoying a stogie
Enjoying on stogie on a hot day in January! Well maybe not enjoying the stogie as much as enjoying the hot day in January!!

The rum is also cheap and good! The same bottle of Havana Club 3 year aged Rum that is $3 there goes for $21 here in Ontario at the LCBO. In Cuba you can also buy 7 and 15 year varieties that I have not been able to find here in Ontario. The 7 goes for $8 and I think the 15 year bottle was around $85. We were told it was the best of the best and I tend to believe it. But if that's a little too rich for your blood, the 7 year blend is excellent.

care for some 7 year Havana Club?
Care to share some 7 year old Havana Club rum with me?

Of course, Cuba is more than cigars and rum. It is a beautiful country filled with the most lovely, friendly people I have ever met in my life! You will never get tired of Cuba. You will want to go back again and again!
