MITHING PANGARAP EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION INC.

THE FOUNDATION

The Mithing Pangarap Educational Foundation, Inc., (MPEFI) is a non-stock, non-profit organization, founded on August 8, 1988, with a vision of assisting disadvantaged individuals and families in the Smokey Mountain area in Tondo, Manila. Through its educational and livelihood programs, it aims to develop children and youth to be self reliant and productive individuals of the society. The foundation's philophy of people empowerment, through a holistic, personal and community development, remains as the important unifying thread for all its programs.

MPEFI'S DOUBLE TRUST

Education: Deprived with adequate education and job training, the underprivileged individuals and families find themselves more and more marginalized in society, driven to lives of misery and hopelessness. MPEFI provides educational program to meet Minimum Learning Competencies (MLC's) of students required by the Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS). The main beneficiaries of this program are student dropouts. Through an enriched educational curriculum, MPEFI helps to equip these students with the necessary skills in Math, Science, History, English, and Filipino, in preparation for the Philippine Educational Placement Test (PEPT). Students who pass this test are given a certificate by the DECS, enabling them to enter either high school or college upon our recommendation. Moreover, MPEFI strives to provide scholarships for the promising students who pass the high school or college requirements.

Livelihood: MPEFI also furnishes livelihood programs. At present, the foundation is providing training in sewing. This basic program can be augmented with other various courses that can enhance different skills. With additional funds, we are hoping our students can undergo these trainings/seminars free of charge.

This double thrust of Mithing Pangarap is based on the belief that an adequate education and practical training for jobs provide a good foundation for the children and youth's future.
