This site is about the East Indians that were indentured in the Caribbean Basin during 1838 and 1917. It also includes information on the repatriation of these Indians that ended in the 1950's; and will include some cultural contribution made up until the 1960's. Most of the information available on the internet and in libraries and other archives mostly tells the story of the Caribbean indentureship scheme of the larger former colonies such as Guyana, Trinidad, or Jamaica. Not much has been written about those Indians that were taken to the other smaller former colonies, even though some of them received large amount indentured laborers, exceeding 20,000; and even then the info only focuses on the first group that was taken there. It is with this lack of information in mind that I started to research and amass as much data as I can about the voyages of all the Indians that were indentured in the Caribbean Basin. And instead of having it hidden away so no one could see it and learn about it or from it, I have posted the data here for everyone to see and gain a greater understanding of the indelible mark that these indentured immigrants and their descendants have had in the Caribbean, beginning with the fact that they saved many of the colonies from economic disaster.
I am eternally grateful for those individuals who have helped me in this research. For those of you who are researching their East Indian ancestry see the group: www.groups.yahoo.com/group/bhatchaman.
