"Manzanita" Stink Bugs: From hatchlings to adults

Fourteen tiny stink bug hatchlings cluster around their egg shells on a pointleaf manzanita (Arctostaphylos pungens) leaf.

The next day, the bugs pull themselves out of their stage one (1st instar) shells and expand to a larger size. Note molting in progress in top left corner and a 2nd instar bug (bottom center) with soft, red shell.
