The Natural History of Peru Course

Offered by Miami University

In 1998 during Spring Break of my senior year at Miami University, I took the "Natural History of Peru" course in the rainforest on the Amazon River near Iquitos, Peru. The tour group Explorama was in charge of leading our class through the rainforest. This course, like the "Tropical Flora of the Bahamas" course that I took the summer before my senior year, was relatively inexpensive, and it was one of the best experiences in my life. I would recommend it to anyone who attends Miami and has an interest in the field of biological science or indigenous cultures.

One of the members of our class was Dr. Thomas G. Lammers of the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago. Dr. Lammers kept an excellent journal, entitled A Week in the Rainforest: An Account of a Visit to Amazonian Peru in 1998, that depicts vividly our one week trip, and he has given me permission to include a link to his journal.
