Kanha National Park
As the safari at Kanha begins the jungle abounds with tourists all over. The park has become very popular in recent times as tiger sightings have increased.

Kanha is one of the finest tiger reserves in India and the best managed. In an area of around two thousand square kilometers there are hundred plus tigers including cubs. Tiger density at Kanha is as high as it is at Bandhavgarh National Park which is two hundred plus kms away in Shahdol district of Madhya Pradesh in Central India.

The most sought after game at Kanha National Park is the tiger - right. Other interesting mammals are Indian bison or gaur, leopard, swamp deer and Sambar deer.

With luck you can see a pack of wild dogs, sloth bear and four horned deer. Barking deer is commonly seen so is the spotted deer which is the main prey base of the tiger and leopard.

Kanha is best for birding trips in winters as numbers are augumented by migrants from far and wide. Kanha National Park is excellent for forest birds and there are more than two hundred fifty birds to be checklisted during winters.

The best period is after January fourteen when holiday season is over and winters reduce. Unfortunately maximum rush is in Diwali festival, Chritmas and New Year time. During this time hotel accommodation at Kanha is full of visitors on tiger safari. Lodging and boarding is scarce as advance booking has filled up all the hotel rooms.

The park entry is now restricted and only limited number of jeeps are allowed in the tourist zone or core area. Obviously the gate entry is now booked in advance by the hotels and resorts to insure park entry for the tourist who books in advance.

In order to visit this tiger park one must book accommodation and travels much in advance.
