In late 1998 I took off once again on a serendipitous
whim, and went to Asia,
planning to travel for about five weeks.
I visited five countries in over four months.
No, it wasn't a whim, actually. My brother was
living in Japan and had been waiting two years for me to visit. My old college
roommate who was living in Hong Kong had also been waiting for two years
for me to stop by and say hello. And two other friends of mine (one of them
yet another old college buddy) were headed for the shores of the Andaman
Sea while on their round-the-world voyage. I was getting antsy.
The planets aligned. It was time. |

The text that is in WHITE are edited excerpts from the emails that I sent to friends and family while I was travelling.
