OUR HONEYMOON AT BREEZES BAHAMAS
December 97
Just a travel report in case anyone is looking for one:
We chose Breezes Bahamas to honeymoon this holiday week 97. We were extremely pleased. We were upgraded to an ocean view room at our request at checkin in recognition of our honeymoon. The room was very nice. The day we checked out, we used a changing room on the first floor which had tile floor rather than carpet. If it is an example of a garden view room which we had reserved, we would not have been pleased with the garden view room. Suggest that the traveller ask if the room has carpeting when making the reservation.
Our stay at Breezes was fantastic. The food was phenomenal. There was 24 hour food of constant variety. There were so many different things to choose from it was just astounding. We had strip steaks, sirloin steaks, prime rib, jamaican jerk chicken, chinese chicken, chinese beef, roast beef, salad fixins like you cannot fit so many on a plate, breads and veggies, fruits, tacos, fajitas, subs, cheese steaks, burgers, hotdogs, fish in several types and several different styles, coffee, tea expresso, punch, juices, sodas, virgin fruit drinks, and if we were drinkers, there were bottomless wines and liquors of all types. The quality of the food was so good, we cannot understand how they make money. It was all you can eat, all day and all night with the menu changing every four or five hours. The Pastafari Restaurant was also free and very excellent dining. They were also willing to allow half this and half that so that we were able to sample more of their menu than we had first thought. Everything was so good, with excellent presentation.
We participated in a few activities, but primarily made our own entertainment. We played tennis, went sailing and swimming in the ocean and the pools. We dipped in the hot tub frequently to relax sore muscles. We especially loved playing ping-pong till two and three in the morning. We challenged another couple and shared experiences and opinions over early morning snack afterwards.
We caught Junkanoo in the wee hours of boxing day (Dec 26), and wandered through the Marriot Crystal Palace and Atlantis resorts. Both seemed very nice.
We toured Sandals Bahamas. We had originally thought that Sandals was our first choice, and Breezes our second choice for accomadations, but decided that Breezes was such a "happening place" with youthful energy everywhere, a spectacular beach, and phenomenal food, that we were very thankful that we had ended up at Breezes. Sandals seemed to exhibit a more luxurious, reclusive atmosphere, where Breezes was alive with the sound of people having a good time.
There was privacy available at Breezes if you wanted, but we preferred to be in-between, with fun in the background but not right in the middle of things. Sandals did not seem to us to have any vitality. Maybe it does, we just didn't see or hear it when we toured their beach, pools, game room, reception, bungaloes, and dining areas.
Busses and Taxis were plentiful. The beaches were clean. The water was crystal clear. The fish came nudging our legs as we waded in the quiet shores of Cable Beach. No surf, just gentle action of the swell, with sea gulls dancing at the waters edge. The sands on the beach, and in the water, were so fine, it felt like walking on silk. No need to wear shoes at these beaches or in the water.
The only negative of the trip would have to be the performance of BahamasAir, which delayed our flight from Miami to Nassau, and delayed and canceled our flights twice trying to come home. We would have had to cough up another $350 for an unexpected night's stay had not a lovely Bahamian couple offered us the night in their home. Although we felt a bit awkward to stay with strangers, they were so wonderful, our honeymoon continued with no blemish. We ended up switching to American Eagle to get off the island the next day after BahamasAir delayed and then canceled our flight the second time. We made a resolve to never fly BahamasAir again.
We did forget that we would be charged $15 cash, each to leave the Bahamas, so between that, the $60 parking fee on our return, a couple of taxi and bus rides to town and Paradise Island, and some food in the airport, our honeymoon only cost $150 over the all-inclusive hotel and travel fee that we paid in advance.
I highly recommend Breezes Bahamas and Nassau as a destination.
