Fantome Sails Out Of Belize in Central America !!

New Polynesia September Repo Cruise

Portrait of a Captain.   Polynesia’s Captain Neil Carmichel

Poly's itinerary remains the same as does Flying Cloud and
Yankee Clipper. Mandalay will sail her normal
Antigua/Grenada route Jan through June. Come July, she'll
sail on 7-day Venezuelan adventures between Grenada and
Margarita (7 days to and 7-days back). She'll sail that
route through September then resume her normal
Grenada/Antigua route come October. Fantome will sail
between Antigua/St. Lucia/Grenada on 6-day legs then back
again till the end of May,

The first week of May (May 4th) she
sails on a six-day cruise ending up in St. Lucia.
The second week of May (May 11th) she begins a
three week repo cruise to Belize (or maybe Roatan).
Starting June 1st she'll begin her Belize
Itinerary (we're not sure whether she'll be based in
Belize City or in Roatan. We're pushing for Roatan but it
all depends on air availability and costs.... Legacy will
be sailing out of Fajardo the the USVIs, BVIs and Spanish
Virgin Islands on 6-day cruises. The Grace sails her normal
Freeport/Port of Spain route.
That's how things stand as of 9:30am on Tuesday,
August 26, 1997. Subject to change by the minute....

S.V. Fantome Explores the Spanish Main and the Honduran Bay Islands
6-day Sailing's out of Belize City to Belize Reef, the Gulf of Honduras and the Bay
Islands

Known as the "Tahiti of the Hemisphere," the region's crystal clear waters, dramatic
jungle-landscaped islands and the second largest barrier reef in the world makes it a
unique vacation experience! And, with its distinctly British heritage, the region has a
pronounced West Indian feel.
Starting April 21, Fantome begins sailing round trip out of Belize City alternating
weekly between the following itineraries:

"Bay Island Cruise"
Belize City
Goff's Cay
Lighthouse Reef/Half Moon Cay
Roatan
Cayos Cochinos
Glovers Reef/Northern Cay

---------

"Spanish Main Cruise"
Belize City
Placencia
Puerto Cortes
Roatan
Utila/Half Moon Cay
-------

These new itineraries are perfect for scuba divers and snorkelers alike. The Bay
Islands are completely surrounded by a coral reef. Inside the reef, snorkelers can
enjoy the same underwater thrills as the divers outside the reef. You can even swim
with the dolphins.
Enjoy horseback riding, botanical gardens, jaguar preserves and much, much more for
those interested in land-based pursuits. It's an ecotourist dream come true!
Fantome will sail round-trip out of Belize City through October when she's scheduled for
her yearly two-week dry dock.

S/V Windjammer Legacy

Well, the day has finally arrived…. S/V Legacy is about ready to sail!
We invite you to sail on her shakedown cruises.

Her first sailing date will be on November 24 (stowaway night November
23). She’ll sail on a 6-day cruise from Grenada to St. Lucia. She’ll
then sail December 1 (stowaway night November 30) on another 6-day
cruise from St. Lucia to Tortola. After which she’ll head over to San
Juan for her U.S. Coast Guard and health department certification.
Then, starting on December 15th (stowaway night December 14th), she
begins her regular sailings on her exciting new itineraries.

About her new itineraries--

You knew there were British Virgin Islands and you knew there were U.S.
Virgin Islands. But, how many of you knew there were Spanish Virgin
Islands? Well, just east of Puerto Rico are some of the most beautiful,
unspoiled islands you could ever hope to see. And, they will be
featured on Legacy’s new itinerary. Additionally, we’ll be exploring
St. Thomas, St. Johns, Jost van Dyke, Tortola and the rest of the
British Virgin Islands.

Two of our top people, Fleet Captain Paul Maskell and Chief Activities
Mate, Louise Reese, are currently exploring the area and are putting
together day-to-day itineraries and shore excursions.

She’ll be homeported on the east coast of Puerto Rico, insuring dirt
cheap air fares from most part of the U.S. We’ve picked out a quiet
little marina just south of Fajardo, a short distance to beautiful
beaches, a tropical rain forest and a major hotel/casino complex.

Islands on the new itineraries—

Vieques Island – From pristine beaches to quaint island towns, Vieques
offers the best the Caribbean has to offer. Only 55 square miles and
8,620 residents, it has over 40 fantastic beaches on which to while away
your time. At night, take a trip to one of their unique bioluminecent
bays. Microscopic organisms turn the wake of your tour boat or sea
kayak into your very own light show!

Culebra Island – This miniature archipelago consists of a
seven-by-four-mile island along with 23 other islands, cays and rocks.
It remains unspoiled including a National Wildlife Refuge. With a
decidedly low-key ambience, it’s not a place to come if you’re in a
rush. It is, however, the place to go if you love beaches, snorkeling
and a quiet afternoon in the sun.

St. Johns – The smallest of the three major U.S.V.I.s, it’s made up
mostly of the Virgin Islands National Park. Major town is Cruz Bay
where visitors can take conducted walks of the National Park or grab a
cross country vehicle for a tour of the island.

St. Thomas – While most people equate St. Thomas with the town of
Charlotte Amalie (where most cruise ships stop). That’s not for us!
We’ll take you to out-of-the-way coves and quiet beaches. However, if
fighting the tourists is your style, feel free to grab a cab into town,
but don’t miss the last launch!

Below is a list of Legacy’s cabin categories and prices. Look it over

Captain Neil

A Blast from Windjammer’s Past!

Do the names of such colorful ol’ Windjammer captains as Laurie McLeod, Wynn Jones,
Jock McGroaty and John Lloyd recall images of wild parties and salty yarns – days where
a pretty girl and a bottle of rum were the order of the day? Well, those days aren’t
gone – completely. Polynesia’s Captain Neil Carmichel served his apprenticeship under
these legends!
Born in what he calls the center of the universe, St. Andrews, Scotland, he left home
at 17 to join the merchant marines where, by the age of 21 he had been around the world
6 times! However, with the advent of containerization, all the fun of merchant sailing
became a thing of the past. In search of romance and adventure, he joined the
Windjammer fleet in 1983 where, under the tutelage for the above mentioned grizzled old
sea dogs he was witness and sometimes an unwilling (or so he says) participant to some
dastardly deeds of which legends are made!
Leaving Windjammer to seek new adventures and more lies to tell, he pursued a dream
of becoming a golf pro, which he did. But a wicked hook and a lousy putter had him
longing for the sea once more, hence his return to the Poly.
According to Capt. Neil, the company has a new look these days, much more
professional, which is good. However, occasionally you’ll see a twinkle in his eye and
you can bet he’s recalling the good ol’ days. "Sailors have a rich traditions to uphold
and bawdy tales to tell," explains Captain Neil. "If you sail with me, ask for a salty
story. Hell, it might even be true!"

Celebrate 50 Years of Barefoot Fun!
--50th Anniversary Flotilla and
Free Cruise Giveaways

Best of all Seadog's who book a standard cabin gets it for 1/2 price. That is $387.50 a week. This does not include air, port taxes or insurance.

Non-Seadog pay regular prices.

Special note: For us windjammers who know story of how Capt Mike started out Windjammer Barefoot Cruises we have come to admire the man. During the 50th anniversary cruise there is a very good chance that Captain Mike will be there on his private yatch Tondelyo.

Since 1947, when, after a hard night on the town, Cap’n Mike pulled out a bottle of scotch and christened his first ship, Hangover, a lot of water has slipped under our keels. Fifty years of crab races, toga parties and off-the-beaten-path islands. Fifty
years of wild parties, midnight passages and hot fun in the Caribbean sun. It would take an entire month to do this anniversary justice.
And so we shall!Come join us during the entire month of October as the new addition to Windjammer the Legacy, Polynesia, Mandalay and, eventually, Yankee Clipper sail together on the Windjammer 50th Anniversary Flotilla.

Join Windjammer for a week or two weeks!

Three ship parties,

Three-ship boat races,

Three-ship island jump-ups –

it’s gonna be a wild two weeks!
And, as a bonus, each week during the Flotilla, Windjammer will draw a name from those sailing that week who will win a free cruise for two. Only those onboard that week can be picked.

The Yankee Clipper, Polynesia and Mandalay will sail the Grenadine Islands together with the Yankee Clipper breaking away after Bequia.
