Still looking for things to do as the sheetrock and taping dragged on, Rick tackled the stairs. We have mahogany treads and mahogany finish stringers along the edges of the stairs, but the risers are southern poplar. Martha put minwax cherry stain on them and they matched the mahogany fairly well.
The new 12" DeWalt sliding compound miter saw with a 60 tooth carbide blade did a great job on all the cuts. On the left, Rick is cutting the angle on the finish stringer and sanding it on the right. |
The rise on the stairs was 7 3/4 inches and the risers at 8 inches fit into a dado on the bottom of the tread above them. They were screwed into the back of the tread below them from behind. The treads were glued and pulled down to the rough stringer by deck screws heading up from underneath through blocks glued and screwed to the rough stringers. This is the last riser being attached to the last tread and banged into place. |
