New House - August 2001
Finishing touches

Rick's office Rick's office
Rick put his pine high school desk and two oak file cabinets under a large desktop that holds the laptop, monitor, laser printer, and many other things. Later three shelves were built above the desktop.

Martha's office

Martha helped by finding a corner desk that merely needed to be assembled. The desk in the center came from the other house and sits on a floor electrical outlet. Eventually, Rick built a daybed to go on the left and installed a reading light above it.

Living room Sitting area
We moved in the carpets that Martha purchased in Beijing in '98. The red one in the living room is a fertility carpet, although, given its age and condition, it is unclear if it still works. Nonetheless, we are taking no chances. The furniture will eventually go back outside as the leather couches show up from Pottery Barn.

The sitting area near the fireplace got the other Chinese carpet. The six board chest, the club chair, and the Gerald Coble collage came from the other house. The vase came from China and the flowers came from the field. The terra cotta coasters with ancient Roman figures were a housewarming present from Rose Taper.
