As promised, there are three ponds. This is the top pond, just off the corner of the kitchen. It is about 8' by 10', 1.5' deep max. It is ringed with slate from the property - some from the cellar excavation and some nice purple slate from the north boundry wall on the north forty. There is a terrace made from the same stones outside the dining room and over along the kitchen to the first pond, around the pond to the second pond and the hot tub. The overflow from this pond flows into the second pond next to the hot tub. The gutter from the right side of the roof flows into this pond and the overflow drops down to the third pond about 100' down the hill. That overflow and the gutter from the left side of the roof cascade over the steep bank into the third pond next to the wood-fired sauna (completion 2002). Sharp eyes may spot the sundial that was a gift from Diane Walsh and Dick Pollak. |
