New House - November 2000
Kitchen Stove, Cabinets, and Countertops

Stove coming in
Bill Ely delivered the stove after the floor was finished and the vent fans and hood were in place. Rick hooked up the gas and plugged it in. It worked fine.
Let the dinner parties begin!

On Monday 20 Nov Bruce Shirley of RBS Lumber called to say the cabinets would be ready on Wednesday. I made arrangements to pick up the countertops on Wednesday morning and picked them up with little trouble. Admittedly, we had two forklifts to lift the pallet onto a large trailer and a four-wheel drive Ford diesel pulling it. When I call RBS Wednesday at lunch, he said the cabinets would be ready on Friday. On Friday morning, he said at 3PM. At noon, he said at 3:30. When we arrived at 4PM, five (representing about half the total length) of the eight cabinets were ready. We took them and installed the one next to the refrigerator and put the top on it. Beautiful.

The next day Bruce brought over the final three, demanded $50 extra for the installation of two cabinets that he hadn't installed. Two months of failed delivery dates made me glad to pay him and send him on his way.

The kitchen looks beautiful. Bruce's custom-made mahogany cabinets look wonderful with the mahogany floor, stainless appliances, and grey/green slate countertops from Sheldon Slate in Granville, NY. They produce honed slate countertops in a variety of colors and almost any style. Visit the website or, better yet, visit them in person. No matter how you do it, they will produce a beautiful counter and do it on time for a fixed price.
