If you come by plane and you get a
sit beside the window, the picture below is a sample of what you may see
right before the landing ... !
Aerial view of Vitória
The
city
Vitória is a quite calm place.
Problems like traffic jams and violence, common to larger cities, have
not yet came to the island.
The east side of the city is the
most beautiful region. There you can find beaches, malls, mansions, typical
food restaurants, the best hotels in the city and the main touristic attractions.
In the city downtown there is a region called "Cidade Alta" where you can find dozens of historical buildings built in the 16th century.
The west side is mostly covered by
a practically uninhabited hill (as you can easily see in the picture above).
The airport
Located in the continental part of
the city, the Airport is very small, but it is provided with all the basic needed infrastructure. There is a small set of gift shops, a news-stand and book-store, a snack-bar, a restaurant, a local telephone company counter, lots of public call boxes, travel agencies and airline companies' counters.
There is a Touristic Information
Booth right in front of the Baggage Claim Area exit. You can find a cool Guide there who will provide you with lots of folders, maps, guides
and ... with but everything in portuguese !
From
the airport to the Hotel
There are lots of rental car offices
at the airport and next to it, so if you decide to rent a car, it is better
to check the prices and types of vehicles in as many companies as possible.
Car rental is quite expensive in Brazil and it is better to know the main
streets, some reference points and the local traffic before your first
drive , so, the best way to go to the hotel is taking a taxicab.
If you go by taxicab from the airport to a hotel in the East side of the city (for example to a hotel in Camburi Beach) you should not spend more than R$ 10,00. Taxi drivers in general only know the basic
words in English.
