EMILY CARR AT HOME AND AT WORK
Victoria artist Emily Carr, someone truly ahead of her time, takes centre stage in this highly informative and comprehensive site. To my knowledge no better web site exists that exhibits her talent and reveals her life. It's not just for the Carr enthusiasts; every web surfer can find something they admire here. A Yahoo Pick of the Week!

MY PICKS:

The Virtual Tour
Only now is her childhood home in Victoria open to virtual visitors via the virtual tour.

Restoration
A section devoted to the efforts made to restore the house to its original condition. My work was later updated in 1997 by Joni McManus, who added the architectural drawings section.

Gallery Section
Over 1000 images of her drawings and paintings in a virtual art gallery. Many of the originals are held in vaults at the holding institutions, and are never seen by the public.

HELMCKEN HOUSE
The oldest existing private home in Victoria, BC was began in 1852. The lodge was the first private home built outside the walls of Fort Victoria, and was the home of John Sebastian Helmcken known for his good doctoring and political involvement.

Current issues
Much of my work went in this section, which includes information on the building technology at their disposal in mid-nineteenth century Victoria. Includes the restoration done to preserve the house, and the final resting place of the Helmckens.

CRAIGFLOWER SCHOOL AND FARMHOUSE
The McKenzie's and the Kosapsom's are part of the history surrounding the area now known as Craigflower.

Farm Folk
The First Nations families, the McKenzie's, and the labours of Craigflower Farm in the 1850s and 1860s. Biographies and papers about these people have lots of genealogical information.

THE GOLD RUSH TOWN OF YALE
Yale B.C. was an important supply and travel point during the Fraser river gold rush and the Cariboo gold rush.

Virtual Town Tour
My tour uses old photographs and documents to recreate how the town would have been more than 100 years ago, when it was a raucous mining town.
