The Alhambra

It was the last week in May, and it was time for celebration in Spain. A small group of us spent the evening at the fair in Granada.

Journal, May 25: "We all went to the fair ? amazing. It had all the regular rides, etc. but the fireworks went on and on, and they had about 200 tents each seating about 200, also used for dancing. Everyone knew flamenco."

A trip to Granada is not complete without visiting the the Alhambra. Some parts of the palace date as early as the 9th century. It is perched on a hill, where there are good views of the city and the Sierra Nevada.

Caves at Sacromonte

Sacromonte is an area in northern Granada, where people have inhabited caves for many years. The shelters range from dark sqats to renovated townhomes. Guidebooks or locals my advise you that it is not a safe area for travellers to visit, due to rumoured muggings. A small group of us went, and to be safe we stayed together and were aware of our surroundings. Sometimes it is worth the risk.
