ANTIGUA
March 1999
This is
a picture of us at Shirley Heights in Antigua. What a beautiful view
at the top!
This is
English Harbor looking down from Shirley Heights.
Some of
the old buildings inside Nelson's Dockyard.
This is
Jolly Beach at Club Antigua where we stayed. The beach was beautiful
here but the Resort wasn't as it appeared in the brochure. We had
a superior room which meant it had air conditioning, telephone, and a full
bath.
This is
part of Club Antigua, taken from the beach. It was clean but was
kind of rundown and old fashioned. They do make up for it with
the all inclusive food and drink though. They are more than
generous when mixing the drinks, so beware!
This is
the beach behind the Club Antigua. There is a beach for every
day of the year in Antigua!
There
must be something special about an early morning sail in Antigua.
I just
love the beach!
This is
us at one of the restaurants at the resort, " Flamboyant." You must
make reservations when you first arrive and you can only eat there twice
during that week. It was pretty nice, except it was too much silverware
for me!
This
is the famous "Jolly Roger" pirate ship! If you want to have
a blast, I highly recommend this. It is an old pirate ship complete
with old cannons and all. They pick you up at 10:00 a.m. and drop
you back off at about 3:00p.m. It has a fun crew but watch out for
the rum punch they serve, it is over 150 proof!
This is
what they get you to do when you have too much of that rum punch!
Swing off of a rope on the side of the ship.
Or you
can just be old fashioned and walk the gang plank.
This is
one of the old forts built into the mountain that we saw at one of our
stops from the Jolly Roger.
Alot of
people say that one of the funnest things is to watch the people get off
the Jolly Roger at the end of the day. This me at the end of the
day.
This is
me before our helicopter ride to the island of Montserrat. It was
a pretty new helicopter and we had a good pilot, thank goodness!
An approaching
view of Montserrat from the helicopter.
Montserrat
has an active volcano on it and we took the helicopter tour right over
it. It was kind of eerie being so close to some thing that powerful.
Even more so after seeing the damage it did to the island and the homes
to the people who once lived there. As you can see it is steaming
pretty good that day.
Jolly
Beach from the air. Montserrat is off in the distance and on a good
day you can see St. Kitts and some of the smaller islands also.
This
is my husband before our sunset cruise on the "Kokomo Kat." It rained
as we were leaving the harbor, but it cleared up pretty quick.
John
enjoying a cold "Antiguan Gold" , while relaxing on the back of the boat.
Seems pretty relaxed doesn't he?
Two ships
passing in the night...what a beautiful sight!
There
is nothing more romantic than to slow dance on a sail boat as the sun sets.
Antigua
has some of the most spectacular sunsets, the colors in the sky are truly
remarkable!
It is
hard to tell where the water and sky touch.
It got
a little stormy near the end of the week, but it was still pretty.
This
is the walkway between Club Antigua and Jolly Harbor.
A truly
beautiful view when you are on top of the world!
