THE AMAZON BASIN


The Oriente, is not easyly accessible but is an abosolute spectacle of tropical diversity of fauna and flora and presents a true marvel for discovery. It takes in part of the Upper and Lower Amazon basins and is for the most part covered in tropical jungle. Within a few hours travel form Quito you are immersel in a living fantasy of colorful parrots and touccans chattering overhead, brilliant morpho butterflies flitting through dense forestation, monkeys high in the treetops and breathtaking rainbows of flowering heliconia and orchids. The primary forest of the Amazon, with hundreds of species of birds and mammals, thousands of species of planta life, is truly paradise for the nature lover and an abslute of adeventure.

The Cofanes, Sionas-Secoyas, Quichuas, Shuars, Ashuars and Huauranins are Indigenous groups qho all live in the Amazon basin. Several of these communities still live isolated from Western civilization, as they have done throughout thier existence.

There are areas where a days drive descending the majestic eastern ridges of the Andes will teke you to the towering giants of a virgin forest. Or you can fly deeper into the heart of the basin area and relish in a confortable motorized canoe ride, cutting through the endless green carpet of forest, to one of the various jungle lodges hidden along the tributaries of the mighty Amazon.

JOURNEY: We begin our Amazon experience with an exhilarating flight deep into the jungle followed by a transfer motorized boat ride cutting through the dense carpet of vegetation which seem to spill into the Rio Napo, one of the large tributaries of the mighty Amazon. Upon arrival to the jungle lodge you have the choice of daily excursion available.
To return to Quito the same incredible journey is done in reverse.

JUNGLE HIKES: Each of the lodges have jungle trails for all ranges of participant fitnesses and length of time walking. Walking with the local guides we encounter exotic jungle life ranging from playful monkeys to brilliantly colored mecaws to the never ending work trains of the leafcutter ants. The towering canopy is a world on its own being home to many species of tropical orchids, bromiliads and ferrms, annnd oof course, to several species of the famous poiison arrow frogs who appear to be painted with splaches of all colors of the rainbow!

INDIGENOUS HOMES: During our stay at the Amazon lodge of your choice you will have the opportunity to visit an Indigenous home in the region to observe the people´s customs and way of life, which are in some cases centuries old.

CANOE TRIPS: If you wish you can join an early morning excursion to enter a paradise of chattering birds of all sizes and colors. Hoatzins, yellow-rumper caciques oropendolas, tanagers, and parrots are to just name a few.
The aim of an evening canoe journey is to find equally fascinating creatures, the paca and native caiman (crocodile)!

ABOUT THE LODGES
Each of the lodges have their own set daily programs with qualified local naturalist guides and boat drivers. Modem cabins, are waterproof with mosquito netting over windows. Cabins are comfortable spacious double or triple occupancy (single supplement available) with private facilities.

NO FLIGHT is required to reach the lodge. A scenic drive from Quito descends the majestic eastern slopes of the Andes cordillera into the lush Amazon Basic.
Normally hammocks or reclining chairs are available on patios or balconies, great for viewing the wildlife from you doorstep!.
Large social-dining areas are great for reminiscing the day´s activities with new found adventure friends. Melas are of intl. standard prepared by professional chefs.
Rubber boots are supplied. Boats are equipped with lifevests.
