Finally! I have
some cool pictures from my recent trip to
Venezuela here: They were pulled from my video with a Snappy.
It was a great trip. Highlights:
- Seeing the total solar eclipse of February 26 from Maracaibo. We had a
perfect day for it!
- Flying over Angel Falls - tallest waterfall in the world!
- Hiking in the Andes and Canaima National Park - exhausting but extremely
scenic!
- Fishing for piranhas. I got several bites, never managed to reel one
in. :-(
- Eating at Heladeria Coromoto, the ice cream parlor with the Guiness
record for most number of flavors. And what, you're asking, did I try?
Smoked Trout! It was very good! I also had Spaghetti and
Cheese (so-so). They also have gross stuff like onion and garlic.
- The Teleferico, the longest and highest cable car in the world. Goes up
to 13,000 feet currently. Hopefully they will fix it up to 16,000 (Pico
Espejo) soon.
- Tour of the Llanos. Our guides got us nice and close to some
interesting wildlife. They pulled a 20-foot long anaconda - fat in the
middle because it had recently eaten a crocodile - out of the mud! We also
saw the largest rodent in the world, iguanas, crocodiles, an anteater with a
baby on it's back, and lots of birds.
- A night on Margarita Island. Nice, but I prefer Roatan in Honduras.
Here's a picture of me and a monkey in Amatitlan, Guatemala.
I'll leave it up to you to figure out which is me and which is the
monkey!
Interesting Things....
- Here are some pictures and a narrative of a trip to
Central America that I took with my university. NOTE: This will
take a little while to download. The pictures are most of a
megabyte!
- My list of Best Places on the Web. Hasn't been
updated in a while, but I'll get around to it someday.
Linux
If you're still using an operating system from Microsoft, check this out.
LINUX is a great alternative.
Compared to Windows, it is:
- Faster
- Cheaper (how does FREE sound?)
- Much more stable - even than NT!
- Small hardware requirements - a 486/33 with 8MB RAM does just fine
(unless you want the GUI, then get 16MB)
- Everything you'd want in an operating system - including lots of
free software. Compilers, Internet programs of all kinds, games, math
and science programs, office suites - what more could you want?
The only time I've ever crashed it was during video configuration
messups. Wish I could say that about Win3.1, Win95, WinNT (3.51 and
4.0), and even OS/2! Download a copy or buy a CD today!
