Mikey and Minay's First Long Vacation Together

Actually, there were a few driving vacations before this one, but this was the first one we considered a "real" vacation. We took a two-week honeymoon trip to Colorado in 1982, and a few short two or three-day trips [Austin, Galveston, Dallas--all Texas, of course]; nothing of any duration except the honeymoon trip. There were too many other factors at work on that trip to consider it a true vacation, of course.

Finally, in 1991, we decided we had both enough time and money to afford a driving trip partway across country. Minay loves the Smoky Mountains, so we decided to head for North Carolina. Each of the following pages narrate the trip, and the thumbnail prints on each page link to larger images [which usually are accompanied by some additional narration]. Wherever possible, I've tried to include links to websites about these places. So, the car is packed, let's hit the road.
