According
to a recent study done by Dr. Gary Roselle, Program Director for Infectious
Diseases
Veterans
Health Administration Department of Veterans Affairs, the total number
of persons who were hepatitis C antibody positive and reported an era of
service as follows:
Most
of our veterans aren't aware of their infection. HCV is not being tested
for at all VA clinics and not all vets are going to the clinics. If you
are a veteran, you need to be tested for HCV.
There
are 2 bills in Congress, HR 1020 in the House of Representatives, and S71
in the Senate that deal with veterans and HepC. Contact your Representative
and Senators and ask them to be co-sponsors on these bills. Both bills
are essentially the same and call for a presumption of infection for certain
veterans. With the passage of these bills, vets won't have to prove that
the military infected them and will then be able to acquire proper medical
care and VA disability.
These
bills are important and need to be enacted into law!
