Okeechobee Chamber of Commerce

Lake Okeechobee is the second largest fresh water lake within the United States and covers an area of nearly half a million acres. The lake is part of the "Okeechobee Waterway" which runs from Ft. Myers on Florida’s west coast , up through the Caloosahatchee, past Moore Haven through the lake, and via the St. Lucie canal, to Stuart on the east coast of Florida.

At present this is the state’s only cross state waterway and accommodates commercial vessels as well as pleasure boats. It’s approximately 750 square miles in area, 45 files average diameter. The lake is 22 feet deep at its deepest point and averages 12 in depth.

Called the "Cross-Roads to South Florida", Okeechobee is the center point where U.S. Highway 441 and 98 join State Road 70, feeding into the Sunshine State Parkway, I-75, I-95 and U.S. Highway 1.

The entire area is literally a sportsman’s paradise with fish tournaments year round. Up to date marinas provide boat ramps, slips, restrooms, (some with showers), boat sales, rentals and repairs.

All equipment and fishing supplies needed by the fisherman are readily available in our many bait and tackle shops, or you can hire an experienced expert fishing guide.

You will find unexcelled large mouth bass fishing, crappie (Speckled Perch) fishing from November to March, and Bream fishing from March to July as well as Catfish.

** Okeechobee is the speckled Perch capital of the world!**
