Stumpy |
Mr. Stumpy is a Great Blue Heron. He is approximately, by human standards, four years old. He derived his name from a missing right foot. At about two years old he was entangled in fishing line. The line wrapped around his ankle and has he matured the line steadily tightened. The line eventually embedded into his ankle until his foot was severed from his leg. Stumpy endured sever agony during this time. Although free to fly anywhere he likes, Stumpy seems to have established his residents of choice in the Taylor Creek area just outside of the city of Okeechobee, Florida. Many of the local residents tried, in vain to capture Stumpy to release his bindings. They were unsuccessful. When Stumpy visits the local residents of Taylor Creek he is greeted with concern and kindness. The local residents take it upon themselves to help Stumpy survive by providing him with most of the discarded elements from their fishing adventures. It has been noticed that some of the residents fish from the canals of Taylor Creek and gives all of their catch of the day to him. Although Stumpy lives with an unusual handicap, he sports a high degree of bravery. When vying for food Stumpy musters up his unique attitude and simply fights off his competitors, large or small.
