THIS IS A SAMPLE LESSON ON CHEMISTRY BY TAN SENG WAH

  • LESSON ON OXIDATION AND REDUCTION PROCESS

    Oxidation is the process of removal of electron, addition of oxygen, removal of hidrogen and an increase in oxidation state or number.

    Q1. If Reduction is exactly the opposite of oxidation, how then do you explain reduction process?

    Q2.Choose which of the following is a redox reaction and which is not. (note: You should be able to answer in 5 seconds.)

    1. Acid hidrochloric + sodium hydroxide-->sodium chloride + water
    2. Carbon + copper oxide-->carbon dioxide + copper
    3. Hidrogen gas + oxygen gas --> water
    4. Copper sulphate + sodium hydroxide-->copper hydroxide + sodium sulphate
    5. Aluminium + zinc sulphate solution-->aluminium sulphate + zinc

  • LESSON ON PERIODIC TABLE

    The location of an atom in the periodic table tallys with the electronic configuration of the particular atom.

    The number of valence electron is the same as the Group number. Whereas the number of orbit is the same as the Period number.

    Q1. Now, tell us the location of an atom X with atomic no. 15 (to answer in 10 seconds)

    Q2. Next,an atom Y with atomic no. 11 and atomic mass 23 carries a charge of +1. Tell us the constituents of the sub-atomic particle in this ion. (do answer in 15 seconds)
