Cascais Monuments
-Câmara Muncipal de Cascais:
This 18th century palace was once the house of the "Condes da Guarda". Has a beautiful entrance patio and a magnificent stairway decorated with tiles.
-Cidadela Fortress:
The Cidadela fortress is from 16th century and was part of the Lisbon-Cascais defensive line. Today it is still used for military purposes.
-Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Assunção:
This church is wonderful from the inside especially for its tiles (1748), the paintings (1634-1684), on the ceiling the image of Our Lady (1900) and finally the main chapel lined with gilt wood with paintings from 15th century.
-Igreja de Nossa Senhora dos Navegantes:
This is the most characteristic church in Cascais (1729) with beautiful marble work.
-Igreja da Nossa Senhora da Misericórdia:
Built in 1551 and restored after the earthquake of 1755. Has an impressive image of Our Lady of the Angels.
The Tourism office has inside some ruins of a 16th century house, which were discovered in 1988.
